Communism Anyone?
This Episode
Communism and socialism have returned to the American political conversation in ways few would have predicted a generation ago. Are they simply new labels for familiar ideas, or do they represent a deeper political and cultural shift?
In this premiere episode, the Discussants begin with Plato's Allegory of the Cave before examining the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), their stated platform, and the growing prominence of socialist candidates in American politics. Along the way, they ask whether today's movement is a passing trend—or the beginning of a fundamental transformation in American public life.
The truth is more interesting than fiction—and far more valuable than clichés or talking points.

We have a discussants, Sarah. Sarah, how you doing? What's going on? Good. You're doing well. Well, welcome to the Doc G studio. And I noticed that you've. Stop by with Bo today, but yeah, yeah, that's my little shadow. Yeah, he is. He's awful cute. Cutest ever. Well, and also from From the hinterland we have the professor on the line. How are you sir? Well, I'm hanging in there that intro was so ominous and aggressive and frightening and I'm kind of unnerved Unnerved by by the intro. What was Yeah, what was the problem?
I think that was sort of the point, you know, is to get a. OK, well, it worked. Hey, I wanted to ask how your project's going. Last time we talked, you said that was sort of on hold and had been for a while, but I'm always interested to hear how that's going. What's what's happening with the project? It's lousy. I'm going to write off the entire summer. Life has interfered. It's things like household maintenance and foolishness like that. Plumbing, cleaning, lawn care, it's just an overwhelming burden.
I had no idea at the outset of this warm weather season that I would have to attend all this crap. But it seems like I might as well write off the summer of 2026 as far as doing anything that I actually want to work on. Well, that's how's it going with you? Well, that's one way to work at it because or look at it because, hey, you know, you can start fresh and just write it off. Oh, boy. I guess maybe we ought to say what the project is. The project is a hot rod. I want to say you're not calling this a rat rod.
It's a tea bucket, right? I'm calling it. I'm calling it a Model T Roadster. The body is a replica of a twenty seven nineteen twenty seven Ford Roadster body. We've got an opening door as a trunk. The frame is hand -built by me out of inch and a half by three inch rectangular tubing, 316th stick, and nobody cares about all these details. And it's going to be powered by a completely upgraded 1952 Chrysler Hemi. And of course, it's going to have all kinds of marvelous details throughout the car that make it quite the thing.
Well, that's something that we probably ought to think about putting on the website for too long, maybe some pictures, you know, if I could get people some some idea of what we're actually talking about. Really, I painted it. I painted an American flag on the trunk and that has me kind of worried. It seems like if if you're running an American flag, you're liable to be maybe shot by some chick with blue hair and a nose. Well, hey, what a great segue. because that's sort of the subject of today's show, the blue -haired, nose -ring -sporting communists who've been running around calling themselves Democratic Socialists of America.
And that's an oxymoron. First of all, I don't think we're a democracy. Are we not a republic? Well, that's a really astute observation, one that would escape them completely. And we've got some, we actually have an actuality from one of their leaders who suggests that the United States Senate is not a democratic institution. No, it is not a democratic institution. And, you know, that that's part of the point. But that's they miss every point. They don't care is my contention. They don't they don't really want to have a debate on that.
I've been told that democracy, democracy is mob rule, actually. You're yes. And there's the founders went to a lot of. trouble to make sure that there were checks and balances against that. You know, the House of Representatives is sort of model. It's to relieve the anxiety of the public. They get to go in and immediately complain, and they can get a vote quickly, and they can pass anything in the House. That is no exaggeration. But then when it gets to the Senate, things slow down a lot. And it was designed specifically to be that way.
You know, their ideas and some of the things that they said on this interview program with, I think it was with Martha McCallum and Shana Bream on Fox the other day were astounding. Now it was the kinds of things that they wouldn't say publicly. Now they're saying it. They're not really calling themselves communists, although if you go to their website, if you look, they're sprinkled with Karl Marx quotes everywhere and they're, you know, they're... They're all together down with it, but they're not hiding it as they used to.
One of the things I wanted to do before we really got into some of this other stuff was sort of look at this through Plato's allegory of the cave. It's something I used to use with students to... to show them better where people's perspectives might come from. It's been one of the most influential thought experiences in philosophy. It appears in his book, The Republic, number seven, and it's really about knowledge, truth, and education and why people often resist reality. So I just thought we'd throw it out there as a foundation for discussion and maybe an idea or two about why they are as they are.
So here's the setup. Imagine people chained inside of a cave since birth. They can only look at a wall in front of them and all they see is reflections from a fire. Between the fire and the prisoners, people carry objects and cast shadows on the wall. And because they've never seen anything else, they believe that the shadows are reality. So think a modern analogy, living your entire life believing television and social media or maybe partisan news is the entire world. I don't think that's very far from the truth for a lot of people.
these days, you know, basically both sides of the political spectrum, I think, maybe more so for folks that are I think their kids are living their entire lives online. Yeah. Yeah. Do you are you seeing that, Sarah? I mean, are you I mean, you're a little closer in some respects. My grandkids lives from day one. has been on social media. Everything they've ever done has been posted on social media. Yeah, I think that's the experience of a lot of people now and people use that for babysitters and then they wonder what the effects might be.
So a little bit more. The prisoner, one of the prisoners is freed and he goes out into the world and the light hurts his eyes. When he first gets out there, he resists pretty much everything he sees and he thinks that the shadows were actually more real. than the reality that he's now seeing. Eventually, he adjusts to it, he sees the fire, he then leaves the cave, and he finally sees the sun. He sees what is, we would refer to, and the postmodernists would reject, as objective truth. This represents, in Plato's allegory, the movement from ignorance to generan understanding.
So, with the sun symbolizing the highest truth. For Plato, it represented the ultimate source of knowledge and reality, the highest form of understanding that illustrates everything else. So the prisoner then returns to the cave to liberate his friend. Gonna get him out of bondage. He's telling him all about the world. He says that the things that they've learned while they were in the cave were completely false that there's a whole world out there and his fellow prisoner who is left in the cave rejects this just rejects it tells him he's a liar in fact it is he rejects it so vehemently that he's thinking about killing this person who's told him all these lies and he can't figure out why he'd want to do that so I think that It's pretty easy to see that you can even tell somebody the bald -faced truth and there may be more reasons than one might think that they would reject it.
I think there are some reasons why people reject because they just want to and it's convenient and, you know, they do know better. But I think there are a lot of other people who maybe not know so well. So with that as a foundation for the socialist communist movement, let's just call it communism, a dirty filthy word. Let's go to Tom. What is he? Let's go to the professor and see what do you what do you think man? Any any sense? I think I think that was a very impressive allegory you presented.
I certainly thought provoking. You painted some pictures, some mental pictures. Yeah, I I think what it used what I used to hope it would do for students is see that everybody grows up inside a cave to some extent and You know my we do I mean we do have our own experiences and things that we think are more valid than maybe Other people's experiences or flat -out just discount I don't know comment. What do you think? Well the the thing of it is we hear all the time people say well I'm gonna speak my truth, you know and so What is real?
Is that is that real? Or is the other real? Well, this is my truth. It's my truth, right? Sure. Do you think how? I'm trying to look. I think that people do have in life lived experiences that do teach them better than maybe other people would know. But I don't think that that's always so. You know, my truth has become a way to say that objective reality and truth does not exist for a lot of people. I think that it's legitimate for some. I think it's a political argument for others. I think it's an excuse.
Well, I think that maybe there's a lot of that as well. Tom, want to ring in? Man, we're just about out of time for this segment. I don't know. I'll give you... Well, I've got one question for you. Okay. It seems like that the freedoms that we allow in this country are also allowing the potential for the country's destruction. So how do we reach a happy medium there? We don't want to exercise any more control over the citizenry, and yet the way it is, all these questionable people, these ignorant people, the evil people, they're doing their best to destroy us.
And so we just kind of sit back and let it happen. Well, that's their constitutional right. So what do we do about that? I don't know. I guess it's something that we ought to explore when we come back from break. Freedom, Socialism & the Constitution
on sabbatical with Doc G and the Discussants. Here's the doctor. It's crazy how we happen to get a studio audience inside the studio, isn't it? Well, we're back and we were talking a little bit ago with Tom the professor asked us Hey, what do we do about this? his question was You know, hey, we're gonna let them tear this down Are we gonna let people that don't have any respect for this tear it down? Well, that's that's tough because you know, there is freedom of speech and when you don't have freedom of speech, how do you challenge the government?
How do you challenge people in power when you're not allowed to say things as you would like to, and especially the power of the press in checking those in power? The problem is it is also the refuge of scoundrels like pornographers. They get really I'm looking for, they get really protective with the Constitution when somebody challenges their ability to purvey their particular products. And so do movements, political movements, like the one we've been discussing, the dirty, filthy communist movement, or as they like to call themselves, so they can.
I think, mullify people. Well, I know this is the case. The Democratic Socialists of America. And that's been sort of the topic. Before we get back to Tom, I wanted to say that Frank couldn't be here today. He's sick. And not just a little bit sick. So he asked that I tell everyone that he's sorry that he missed this show today. We expect him to be back very soon, as soon as he can swing it. So let's... Tom, how do we do this? I certainly don't have the answer to that one. I don't think there is any answer.
That's a worrisome situation because, as you said, you can't quell some of this stuff or you're violating our own principles. Therefore, it's allowed to happen. So there's the question. It's happening and... We just sit by and think, well, they can do what they want. This is America. And then I think it boils down maybe to there are three different classifications of people that I've come up with. One, there will be, this is assuming the takeover of communism, there's one group of people like the Alexandria Ocasio -Cortez's and the Bernie Sanders and their ilk that would benefit from it.
They would be in positions of power. They could. live in their lovely mansions, and the rest of us could, whatever that lady in history said, let them eat cake, whatever that would be. Or the second classification of people, these are the reality people. They say to themselves, well, it looks to me, from what I've found in these years of living, that there are more people in the United States than there are opportunities. I know everyone will disagree with that one, but. That seems to be the case to me.
There are more people than there are opportunities. So the people that believe that will think, well, I wish life hadn't turned out this way, but so be it. So let's just hop into communism and let the government provide me with a little cubicle in public housing and send me a little stipend so I can subsist until the end. And then the third group of people would be the, I would call them just the naive or the ignorant or the unknowing. just looks good to them like, oh wow, free stuff, cool, yeah, let's do that.
So anyway, there you go, the three types that are exacerbating this. Yeah, I don't think that it's hard to argue against this. You know, I really want some free stuff at this point. You know, Sarah and I were talking about this just, I think it was yesterday about previous generations, for example, my father, my grandparents, they would not be caught dead taking anything from the government. Would not. Right. Their neighbors would not. There was no way that, you know, free government things or handouts were in any way socially acceptable to most levels of society.
That's just not the case anymore. I don't think anybody has any compunction about ticket and I think this is part of one of the reasons which is you know of Basically another show and probably not very now long from now about why this has become so so popular but Right, I think that that's Unfortunately, there's a lot of truth in that, but that's what the communists would say that capitalism is. that everybody fends for themselves. We need a more civil and a polite society, a more forgiving society.
Yes, as Mamdami said, the warmth of the collective. Yes, and the sort of thing that Lenin and Stalin and every Soviet premier used to like to say and, you know, good old Mao Tse -Tung, it's... you know, the warmth of the embrace of this wonderful system we call communism. It is... Hey, I understand that Lenin's body is still on display, but it's been so many years that really not much of it anymore is Lenin. It's all synthetic materials to where it still looks like him, but it mostly is not Lenin, but it's on display.
Do you know anything about Lenin's body? I know nothing about it. I just was thinking about the Hall of Presidents. at Disneyland. I mean, at this point, is he is he animated at this point? Does he does he do anything? Yeah, I'd like to see him animated, not the old fashioned way like a marionette. But, you know, with some kind of internal computer, like, well, you know, like these sex dolls are animated, you know, they can move around and breathe and blink their eyes and all that it'd be kind of fun to see Lenin like that.
Lenin is a sex doll. That might be the subject of a lefty show at this point. Well, I was just talking about using the mechanism from where I'd like it. Yeah, I did. It turned real quick. Hey, I thought we'd hear from their mouths themselves about what they believe. This has been a spot that's That's kind of gone viral. I think this is kind of been everywhere at this point So we're gonna put up on the screen a few of the things that are part of your platform And I want to ask you just give me sort of a true false on these Abolish the Senate True, okay replace the presidency and Supreme Court as we now know them Yep abolish ice Absolutely abolish borders and give amnesty to anyone currently in the US illegally As a long -term plan, yep.
Defund the Pentagon. Absolutely. Abolish prisons, at least in large part. Yeah, again, as part of a long -term program, yeah. Okay, so no prisons. Government or public ownership of most large corporations. Yeah, absolutely. See, I mean, there is no daylight between what they call themselves, this democratic socialist thing. and communism, no daylight at all. They didn't used to say these things publicly. It was, you know, much, you know, they, they, I don't know, it's kind of nibble around the edges out of it, but they would never really say, you know, this is exactly what they believe, you know, this government takeover of businesses, you know, Mondani, happy to say that we've got government run grocery stores.
And I don't know whether he thought that was an original idea or not, but, you know, the one over 10. What happened to the fast free buses? Where are the fast free buses? That's the thing, is the promises never really ever materialize, but they continue to be elected and reelected by saying... What did President Trump refer to Haiti as can remember I think was Haiti President Trump referred to Haiti. Can you recall? I think I remember that he called it. What was it a? It started with an ass ended with a T. Yeah, and yeah And he also lumped in several other countries in that description if I remember right that was kept it big.
Right. Well, I think that, you know, we saw mountains, oceans of people just stream over the border, and the American people were sort of asked to believe that this is normal, that we should be grateful that these folks... First we were asked to believe that it's not happening. Right. Yeah, you don't believe your lying eyes. We've got this thing under control. Oh, here's the biggest lie. The border is closed by any number by any number of Biden administration officials when they were asked about it.
Well, you know, the border is closed. And they said there was nothing that could be done about it. Absolutely nothing can be done. It's now closed. That river of people is no longer coming over the border in the throngs that were coming. And I think it's going to be extremely interesting to see that these, I think that these caravans will quickly become animated again as soon as they believe. that there may be a change in leadership. I think that there'll be flyers on every telephone pole south of the southern border.
And that would be the only way it would be when it wouldn't be south of the southern border when it have to be to reorganize those things. The cartels made a lot of money smuggling people, which is kind of got us. I don't know, it is sort of part of the same conversation in that they are saying that they want completely open borders, which is nuts. It's nuts, but you know, we had it. We basically had it. When the Democrats were talking about comprehensive immigration reform, we saw. We saw what that was.
Wow, that pretty much tore up an entire segment. When we come back, we'll do some more with some comments from their leadership, which I think is incredible, the things that they are willing to say now. And I want to check on a couple of other things before we get out of here today. So stay with us. You're on sabbatical with Doc G and the Discussants.

Everything in the store is something we are proud to own ourselves. Take a look at... Your family came here from Peru, really in the middle of the heat of the shining pack. They were Maoist communist guerrillas in Peru. So why did your family come to America?
The economic situation in South America and in Peru was in a really bad place. But I think that much of what we could say is responsible for that actually was the imposition of capitalism and American imperialism in many cases is actually what brings immigrants to the US coming out of Latin America. So they come here because they don't like the imposition of American imperialism in the country that they're in? Yes. In many countries, there have been undemocratic coups that have destabilized countries.
And that's pushed people out. So now, Martha McAllen caught him and said, Hey, you know, they're going from the, you know, just to continue our discussion of this invasion that we all had to live with for quite a few years. Why are they coming here? Well, he said they're leaving because of the imposition of capitalism in those countries. But the first place they run to. is the place where those policies are enshrined and enjoyed by the population and taken as normal and those sorts of things, but they cannot explain why they would come to a place that they hate.
And I think, and this is pure conjecture, but just the attitude for me, this guy is not a guy who, likes this country is Do you all detect that as well or is it just me? I agree with your conjecture completely. He just this sounds like a person who really wants to tear it down. even though he's taken advantage and currently lives in the greatest country on the face of the earth, and his forefathers, not very long ago, came to this country to flee other places where the system he'd like to put in place is now thriving and sort of the norm, but wants to bring that here too.
Let's see if we can find another cut. And
Democratic Socialists Under the Microscope
see, this was, I think, the same interview. Let's try this and see. Are you in favor of abolishing Article 1 of the Constitution? No. We support a democratic route to transformative change in the United States. We think that we need to put the working class before the billionaire class. So you don't want to abolish the Senate? the United States Senate, because that's what Article 1 is. The United States Senate is an undemocratic institution. It gives more representation to people in smaller states than to the 30 million people in California.
That's where you have the balance. You've got the House of Representatives, which is population -driven, and then you've got the Senate. So every state, if you're a small state, you still get two senators, even though you only get maybe one congressman, in order to make all of the states have fair representation.
When you ask normal Americans if Congress and the Senate and our political system is working for them, most people are very unhappy with the political system and they say it's not working for them. Well, there it is again. My takeaway there, the biggest thing was that he wouldn't answer the question. is when you ask most people, they're not satisfied with the system. Even when Martha gave him the opportunity to say, hey, here's the reason why the Senate is the Senate, he just pivoted and said, well, nobody likes it.
So going back to Tom's statement early, there you are, Tom. There's your Senate thing. There's your republic thing. Well, as far as not answering questions, that seems to be a common thread running through all this. By the way, I think Trump refers to them now as Democrats. That's okay, it's cute, but it's not severe enough. I think, I've come up with one, demon rats. The demon rat party, I think that's more appropriate, they're demon rats. And I think people like Mamdami, it's like someone who's been in some kind of unclean environment, and then he comes in amongst people.
without disinfecting himself. I think Bob and Donnie is infected with all this communist crap, all these microbes. I wish he could have been cleansed before we entered the United States. Well, that's telling it like it is, for sure. I think that he's a particularly interesting person. I, Cher and I was having a conversation the other night about him. I'm going to tell you who he really reminds me of. He sort of reminds me of school administrators. It's kind of happy talk all the time. It's a smile on your face.
It's the right phrasing. It's the right cadence all the time. It's just this general way of being. I don't know if you guys saw, he was knocking on a camera lens the other day talking about his glee at raising taxes. It certainly means to do so. It doesn't appear to matter how many people are going to leave New York. and especially people who can afford to pay his taxes. So, you know, going back to, I don't know, your description of it, this smile. He's a salesman. He's a salesman. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
This this smile that sort of belies this. I'm going to go ahead and go with you on this sort of evil plan to, you know, I have the power to take your property from you, and I'm going to give it to the people who I believe deserve it. You do not. And boy, if that isn't a hallmark of redistribution. As I was growing up as a small child, my mom told me a couple of different times during those years. She said the devil's not going to be some silly cartoon character in a red suit with a pointed tail.
He's going to be handsome and charismatic and engaging. and intelligence. So okay, mom, here you go. Well, I knew Tom's mom quite well. And she had many, many things that she would say like that, that were worth stopping to listen to. Because there was always at first they were entertaining. And secondly, there was always a good truth behind them. And so I always used to enjoy I think I have yet another This guy's name is Guerrero. He's the co -chair of the DSA, the dirty, filthy communist. Let's talk about his ideas about who should have profit.
What we're facing in our housing system is that we talk about tenants and we say they have to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. They have to be responsible financially. But when we look at the landlords, we don't use those same standards. Landlords in New York have been making a 12 % return on their investment for on average. How much should they make? What's fair for the landlord to make if you don't like 12? They're complaining that 12 is not enough. and we don't think that anyone should have a constitutional right to double -digit returns on their investment.
That's why we've implemented... No one should have a right to a double -digit return on their investment. No one has a right. That's not... What are you talking about? That's not in the Constitution, but what we see is that when we implement a rent freeze, we have landlords who are crying. I talked over the top of her. I didn't mean to do that. Please excuse me. The idea that... someone should be able to tell you how much profit you can make. And if it's deemed obscene, we'll take that from you.
And if you're upset about someone else saying that you can't have that profit, that's somehow villainous in this country. Again, things that they didn't really used to say publicly, that was on Fox News. Well I think we should line up all these commie MFers and give them a free airline ticket to the communist country of their choice so they don't have to be burdened by being in the misery of this capitalist country. Let's get them the hell out. We don't want you. We don't need you. Pick your country, wherever you want to go.
I realize that maybe Russia isn't currently technically communist, but it would be on the list of one of the choices. You'd go with China, possibly Venezuela. How about Raul's Cuba? That'd be a cool one. I just named one of my cats Raul. I thought in honor of the dictator, the tyrant of Cuba, that might be a good choice. Tropical, palm trees, and communism. Right. Yeah, I don't seem to want to go there We don't see them headed there They seem to want to stay here and bring all their friends here But kind of don't doesn't like it here That's Can't go anywhere else because the immigration policies are tougher than they are to get in the United States.
That's a wonderful point There's many places, and especially authoritarian countries, where you don't just pour in over the border. They're not going to allow that. They're not going to allow their society to be undermined by people who don't toe the line, especially. That's very true. I think that, you know, these kids... that think that we've got another show coming before very long about maybe the roots of these things, which I think is is more interesting than the people themselves. I view them going back to the cave as people who are a lot of them, I think, have not been either educated at all or maybe overeducated at the wrong place.
And let me stop you right there. That's one of my pet peeves, too, as if anyone gives a damn. But I'm so sick of hearing the term educated, when really the proper term would be credentials. They're credentials. I mean, sure, I think on some level, I'm talking about on the K -12 level. You don't get credentials there. And we had a story not very long ago in New York City where we had a play that was performed. And the kids were singing and dancing to the themes of oppression and how they could eliminate or alleviate people's particular predicaments because they are part of a race group or a class group that has been oppressed in the country.
That is... So I've had this argument with people over the years. Well, it's inculcation for certain. The right also inculcates people. They require that the Pledge of Allegiance be said. They require that particular strains of history be taught. Those are inculcation for certain. They are part of that. But the left has caught up in a vintage with inculcation. And they're doing it in ways that are producing what they're meant to produce. We've got one more segment to go. Let's get a spot set out of the way.
And we'll be back shortly. You're listening to Doc G and the Discussants

So we started this whole thing today with the allegory, Plato's allegory of the cave and how people, you know, they grow up with their own realities and some grow up in some realities.
And I think we could sort of relate this to Mike Donnie, who, you know, his folks are rich. They come from they are professors. They are steeped in postmodernism, communist ideas, which is all the fashion. If you remember, Tom. you and I discussing how that had sort of seemed like it invaded every corner of the universities I was at and made it in some ways kind of hard to be there. Because I honestly was very surprised when I first entered that world how, let's say, easily those sorts of ideas tripped off people's tongues and how clearly they were favored.
I remember back in the day on different kinds of forums for different endeavors there might be a question on there that says any intention on overthrowing the United States government and you thought oh my my my no certainly not no and there was a feeling of loyalty to the United States, and also there was a fear factor there, the prosecution that could, that's my parrot, I've got a parrot, there's a fear factor there too, against any possible, even an intimation of overthrowing the government. Now, that's all changed, now it seems like if you're not intending to overthrow the government, you're just not cool.
That seems to be a underlying theme of the pink blue -headed Green hair, I mean they really there really is a uniform it seems like when I see you know a gathering of these folks that you know, they're very very different looking people at this point and you know, they're they're taking on police in some ways that I Couldn't get away with If I were to do these things, I am quite sure I'd end up in jail. I know that there are people that, you know, don't do end up in jail. But I guess it must be the municipality because when you throw things at a cop, you can expect to be arrested, except in some places.
I think that's changed a little bit since it seems like all this kind of started with the Occupy Wall Street movement when You know, that started to look like the flavor of a communist protest. Then it sort of moved into, you know, the Black Lives Matter era where, you know, we watched the country burn. Then what do we have? The chop? What was that? I was going to ask you. I was going to ask you. That very word, I couldn't remember, but you said it right there. Yeah, they basically declared their own country within the United States and burned a police station to the ground.
Burned it to the ground. I think it's still in ruins there, and doesn't it sit as sort of a monument? There's another place where there's monument basically to burn out where George Floyd was, so this is nothing new. I personally believe this is the manifestation of those protests in the political realm now. That they have found their channels. That was ridiculous on its face. They were mostly violent. mostly violent. If you saw people that were just protesting with a sign, that was sort of unusual.
They were, you know, at least next to a policeman or a national guard, screaming in their face, spitting on them. It was intense and there was nothing peaceful about these things. Of course, then there was a nightly shopping trip where we, what, vandalized and looted cities to a point where you know there's no longer businesses. As long as you're stealing 900 bucks or under it's okay. Well here's a little story about that. Sarah and I decided that what we should do as soon as they change those laws that you know you could steal less than I think it was 800 or 900 right in that neighborhood.
that, you know, it was going to be treated as a misdemeanor, basically, you know, no harm, no foul. You know, I said, well, you don't need to go on out there to California and steal $800 a day. And that's basically what ended up happening with a lot of people. They took full advantage of those laws and a lot of peaceful loss, a lot of property because of those things. So I personally believe that this movement is now the political wing. of those people who were involved in those movements and giving them voice.
And as I said at the outset, make sure that you don't have any illusion that this is not coming to you because it is largely a very young people's movement. And without being disparaging to all young people, I don't think that they are getting the background, they grow up without parents. They grow up on their own. They grow up with phones in their hands for babysitters. They are largely left to form their own opinions of things. And when somebody says, hey, how about some free stuff? I think it has a big appeal.
Well, they're taught that from school. You know, it's a community everything's community right and I think that that's the point that we want to make in the Upcoming show Perhaps tomorrow show where you know, I think we can start to see why this thing is Starting to catch fire ideas on that professor No, no I think that we've covered it. I don't know whether we've covered it particularly well, but I think that anyone who thinks that this is just a fad has another thing coming because this is where the energy is at in politics.
There's no more energy anywhere except for this DSA communist movement. I have got to get out of here. We are up against a really hard break. Next time when we come back I want to make sure that We make all the room we can for discussion about why we think This is actually happening and I think it's a little bit scary because If somebody doesn't get a grip on this pretty quick We just can't underestimate this movement. It has won over the world in many, many, many places. It's not a fringe movement.
It has taken over some of the most populous nations on this globe. And the promise always is, we'll give you free stuff and we'll take care of you. And I think that has a big appeal. Oh my, regrettably that brings us to the end of another show. I hope you noticed that I did not say at the end of the day. That's because we do have a few rules around here.
